Record the message and circumstances without guessing its meaning from color alone.

Capture the text safely

Once safely parked, record the message, symbol, model and year. Do not use your phone while driving to document it. A similar symbol in another vehicle may have different instructions; start with your own manual.

Describe observations separately from explanations

Note whether the warning appeared at startup or while driving and whether performance, sound or smell changed. Separate what you observed from what you suspect. This helps a professional understand the report; it does not diagnose the cause or establish fitness to drive.

Distinguish assistance messages

Some messages concern the availability of driver assistance. NHTSA explains warning and intervention functions and points owners to their vehicle manuals. A disappearing message or restart does not prove that its cause has been repaired. Do not deliberately test a system in a dangerous situation.

Turn the observation into follow-up

Ask the appropriate professional what the message means for this version and what action is required. Record the advice and inspection date in your garage. If the manual calls for stopping, or there is an obvious danger, follow its instructions and seek assistance rather than continuing experiments.
