Compare safety functions without relying on similar marketing names.
A name is not a complete description
Manufacturers may use different names for similar technology. NHTSA distinguishes systems that warn the driver from systems that can intervene through braking or steering. Request the function and operating conditions from the manual for the exact version you are considering.
Compare each function separately
Separate lane departure warning from lane keeping assistance, and collision warning from braking intervention. For each trim, mark every function as present, absent or unverified. Missing information must not become an assumed check mark.
Understand your responsibilities
These systems assist the driver and do not justify distraction. Read the manufacturer’s limits, alerts and operating instructions. Never test braking assistance by placing a person or obstacle in front of the vehicle. Request a safe demonstration from an appropriate professional.
Ask before buying
Is the equipment standard in your local market? Does it require a subscription? What calibration is required after windscreen or sensor-related repairs? Ask for model-specific written answers and include known service costs when they materially affect your budget.
