Flashing or abnormal performance requires stopping

What does this light mean?
The engine symbol may relate to engine management or emissions. It cannot alone reveal whether the cause is a sensor, ignition or another issue; a code starts diagnosis rather than naming a part to buy.
Steady amber with no symptoms
Arrange an inspection soon and follow the manual's driving instructions. Avoid high loads, and do not postpone diagnosis merely because the vehicle seems to run normally.
Flashing, a red warning or shaking
This may indicate a more serious problem, including irregular combustion that can damage exhaust components. Stop and request assessment instead of completing the journey.
Practical steps before inspection
- Keep a photograph of the message and note when it appeared and whether it was steady or intermittent.
- Tell the technician about refuelling or servicing before the warning. A sequence of events does not prove the cause.
- Request that codes and inspection findings be recorded before clearing, then confirm that the cause has been resolved after repair.
