Before approving a repair: compare two workshop quotes

Compare evidence, work scope, parts and warranty rather than just the first price.

Compare evidence, work scope, parts and warranty rather than just the first price.

Use the same problem description

Give each workshop the same account of when the issue occurs, what changed and related previous work. Avoid presenting an online guess as a confirmed diagnosis. Ask what has actually been inspected and what still requires investigation so you do not compare a completed diagnosis with a preliminary guess.

Write down the scope

Request separate parts, labor, inspection and fee items. Check part numbers or specifications and proposed alternatives; similar names do not establish equivalence. Ask whether the work addresses the cause or only replaces the visibly affected component.

Agree on additional work in advance

Agree how you will approve extra work discovered during inspection. Make clear what may proceed now and what requires further contact. This organizes communication and does not replace the provider’s terms or local rules. Keep the quote, invoice and inspection findings.

Connect repairs to follow-up

After collection, record the work, mileage and cost in your garage and request repair-specific follow-up instructions. If the original problem persists, a replaced part does not establish that the issue is resolved. Describe the remaining symptoms precisely when contacting the workshop.
